Klein Bottle House

29/12/2009

The Klein bottle is a mathematical surface with no distinct “inner” and “outer” sides. Mathematical surfaces and shapes like the Klein Bottle intrigue architects because they provide new possible constructions and ways of communication. Klein Bottle House is an example of architecture inspired by these structures. The architects have successfully created a vacation home which messes with your brain but - nevertheless - is warm and inviting. Therefor, it doesn’t come as a surprise that this house won the award of best home of 2009, at the World Architecture Festival.

Tadao Ando

27/09/2009

Tadao Ando is a Japanese architect, who primarily works in exposed cast-in-place concrete. In 1995, Ando won the Pritzker Architecture Prize, considered the highest distinction in the field of architecture.

Tadao Ando:
“In architecture, there is a part that is the result of logical reasoning and a part that is created through the senses. There is always a point where they clash. I don’t think architecture can be created without that collision.”

7/05/2009

German architect Alexander Brenner brings us residential buildings with what seems to be a touch of Bauhaus. Miki 1, a luxurious home built in Stuttgart, is the living example of clean architecture.

Exotic

15/04/2009

Extraordinary architecture is brought to us by the Italian architect Renzo Piano. In the middle of the exotic vegetation of New Caledonia lies Jean-Maire Tjibaou Cultural Center. Built in 1998, it was ment to symbolize the local culture, rather than to just have a scent of it.

Bamboo was used to build the largest part of the pavilions, for it’s a traditional and sustainable building material that fits the project perfectly.

Casa Gaspar

13/04/2009

Casa Gaspar is one of the first works by the Spanish architect Alberto Campo Baeza. It is one of the living examples of minimalism in architecture, and was probably inspired by architecture from the 20´s like De Stijl or Mies van der Rohe, or by other post-modern architects like Stantigao Calatrava.

“At the client’s insistence on absolute independence, it was decided to create an enclosed precinct, a “hortus conclusus” or closed grove. The white color of all the parameters contributes to the clarity and continuity of the architecture.”
